Norma is survived by her daughter, Dr. Gloria Gammell (Dr. Susan Grover) of Johnson City, TN and her son, Glenn Gammell (Kenda) of Hamilton, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Pauline Lilly Shaffer, and brother Randall Lilly. She was employed by the Cincinnati Public Schools Board of Education for 10 years until she began her family. After her children were older, she was an income tax preparer with Gordon Fahs Tax Services. Norma was very active in her children’s lives. She was a homeroom mother at Fairfield North Elementary, a Girl Scout leader and a “taxi driver” for her children and their friends. An accomplished seamstress, she made clothes for her entire family and served as resource for other sewers. Later in life, she was involved in Fairfield Township politics, was an election poll worker and was a member of the Sew and Sowers at Redeemer Church, Hamilton. Norma was also an avid reader and loved to travel. A lifelong learner, she instilled a love of learning and reading in both of her children. Norma’s expertise in the history of the Cincinnati area and the U.S. was extolled by many. Her memory and attention to detail made her storytelling so memorable. A funeral ceremony celebrating her remarkable life will be held Tuesday May 22, 2018 at 1pm with visitation from 12pm to 1pm at Redeemer Church, 3431 Hamilton-Middletown Road, Hamilton with Rev. Craig Pinley officiating. Burial will take place at Arlington Memorial Gardens, Cincinnati. Memorials in Norma’s honor may be made to Redeemer Church or your favorite library.
