Mathews C. Taylor, 93, beloved father and grandfather, a resident of Decatur, passed away Sunday morning, May 27, at the Tut Fann Veterans Home. He suffered a fall on Saturday. “M.C.” was known to many through his position as manager of Decatur’s Maison Morgan, and as an election official.
Prior to moving to Decatur, he had a long career in the retail business in Huntsville. He was proud of his U.S. Army service in World War II. He is survived by his children Deborah Ashford (Kevin Klose) and John Taylor (Faith); beloved grandchildren Jordan Leigh Rhatigan, (Caleb); Kya and Brodie Taylor, Jesseca Salky Cunneen (Chris), and Sarah, Lilli, and Rebecca Salky; great grandchildren Jameson and Maeve Cunneen, and Brooks and Hayes Rhatigan; brothers Mack, Huston and Kenneth, and sister Ozell Lowery. His story-telling, laughter, and loving support will be sorely missed by all. His wife of sixty years, Betty Hacker Taylor, predeceased him.
Visitation will be Monday, June 4, 2018 from 9:30 am until 11:30 am at Roselawn Funeral Home. Celebration of M.C.’s life will be Monday June 4, 2018 at 11:30 am at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel. M.C. will be laid to rest at Athens City Cemetery. Gifts in his memory can be made to Turner-Surles Community Resource Center in Decatur.
