He leaves his daughter Kim Schmitz and her husband Brian Schmitz, his daughter Melanie Estridge and his two 4 legged grand-children Molly and Stella. Calvin also leaves a brother Thomas W. Estridge, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of the late Olin and Sarah Lemonds Estridge. Calvin is also proceeded in death by his wife of 64 years Margaret (Rita) Estridge and by five brothers: Bill, James, Clyde, Johnny, and Marcus, plus four sisters: Myrtle, Sarah, Louise and Peggy.
Calvin was a quite, gentle, selfless humble man. All he truly cared about was as he used to say "his girls". He was a loving husband and father who will be missed more than words could ever express. Calvin's son-in-law Brian meant so much to him and he became the son he never had. Calvin lived a quite life and was his happiest at home in his rocking chair being with his family. Calvin is also a veteran who served his country in the Air Force where he met his beloved wife Rita in England. England took a huge piece of his heart.
Calvin enjoyed his hot cup of coffee, but had a real love for a Wendy's Frosty. Calvin enjoyed a good steak but his favorite meal was at Thanksgiving and the dressing Rita made. In his earlier years Calvin loved going to the NASCAR races or watching them on television. Calvin was a big animal lover who loved his pets dearly.
About 2 years ago Calvin & Rita were named Valentine King and Queen for which they were crowned. From then on he reigned as King Calvin. Calvin was also honored by being named resident of the month at Carrington Place.
A funeral service in memory of Calvin will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with service to begin in the McEwen chapel at noon. Interment will follow at the family plot at Sharon Memorial Park.
