James T. Hainey, 59, of Manchester, died May 22, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Providence, RI on February 20, 1959 the son of Bernard J. and Jane T. (Hollis) Hainey, Sr. He grew up in Pawtucket, RI and was educated in the local school system, including Pawtucket West High School.
Jim moved to Manchester in 1990 and with his culinary talent became a well-known chef at some of Manchester’s best known restaurants among them Fratello’s, the Hanover Street Chop House, One Flight Up and the Radisson Hotel. He was also a chess master and held a black belt in Karate. He was a member of Manchester Christian Church and enjoyed serving in their ministry outreach programs, particularly serving with “Do You Know Him”, “the 1269 Cafe” and “Food for Children”. Jim loved writing poetry and would often share his poetry with the fellowship at church where he was known as “God’s Poet”. Family was important to Jim and he will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle and friend.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Bernard Hainey, Jr. and his sister Kathleen Williams.
Members of his family include his sisters Patricia Hainey Barton of Virginia, Jane England of Manchester and Marjorie Andrews and her husband Robert of South Attleboro, Mass., his nieces Jessica Frenier of North Carolina and Alysha England of Manchester and his cousins Joan and Frank Hainey of California, along with several other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday June 8 from 4 to 7 pm at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday June 9 at 10 am in Blessed Sacrament Church 14 Elm St. in Manchester. Urn burial was private at Mount St. Mary Cemetery in RI. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Blessed Sacrament Church, or the “Do You Know Him” Ministry, 497 Hooksett Road, #396, Manchester, NH 03104, or the 1269 Cafe, PO Box 6131, Manchester, NH 03108 or to a charity of one’s choice.
