Mary Geraldine (Gerry) Fisch, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, June 2, 2018, at Wood Village in Sweetwater, Tennessee, with her daughter, Susan, by her side. She was a beautiful light in the lives of many family members and friends.
Gerry was born on May 25, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio to James and Loretta Hughes. She had two older sisters, Betty Hughes Montreuil and Helen Hughes Metz, and a younger brother James Hughes. In her late twenties (1955), having only lived in Cleveland, she took several months off from work to travel all over Latin America. In Ecuador she met a handsome tour guide, Henry Enrique Fisch, who became the love of her life. They were married on April 21, 1956, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Cleveland and began an incredible adventure together.
In 1962, they moved to South America with their three young children. Henry’s position with Pan American World Airways led them to Colombia, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, and Guatemala before retiring in Fort Myers, Florida, in 1985. She loved Florida and lived there until 2014, moving to Tennessee to be closer to family. She survived the Great Depression, hurricanes, earthquakes, and volcanoes with a quiet courage that always made her children feel safe and loved.
In her later years, she always looked back on her life as a great one. Her frequent term was “I’m a lucky girl” yet everyone who got to know her were truly the lucky ones.
Gerry is predeceased by her parents and siblings, and by her husband of 53 Years. She is survived by her children, Susan Fisch Good and spouse Eric Good of Lenoir City, Tennessee, David Fisch and spouse Diana Fisch of Pleasanton, California, and Rebecca (Becky) Fisch and spouse Jacque Jensen of Reno, Nevada, along with grandchildren Brenna Fisch, Aubrey Fisch, Hayley Jensen, Wesley Good, and Trevor Good. She is also survived by sister-in-law Eva Fisch Desrosier along with many nieces and nephews and their spouses, children and grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their gratefulness to the staffs of River Oaks Place, Lenoir City, TN and Wood Village, Sweetwater, TN for their love and care while Gerry resided with them.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, June 22, 2018, at Central United Methodist Church, 301 Hickory Creek Road, Lenoir City, Tennessee 37771. Receiving friends will be from 4 pm to 6 pm.
