Hersey Taylor

Hersey Dyer Taylor Jr, 91 of Provincetown MA passed away on Monday June 4th. Hersey was born May 20, 1927 in Waltham MA to Hersey Dyer Taylor and Hattie Cobb Taylor. He grew up in Provincetown MA where his father ran the local funeral home. Hersey graduated High School from Tilton Academy (NH) in 1945 then he immediately enlisted in the Navy serving in the south pacific in 1945 & 1946. After WWII Hersey entered Springfield College, graduating in 1951. While at Springfield he met the love of his life Joan Alexandra Brand of Longmeadow MA. Hersey and Joan were married in June of 1952. Upon graduation from Springfield Hersey began a 25 year professional career with the YMCA. He served as Executive Director of YMCA’s in Silver Springs MD, Annapolis MD, Baltimore MD and Framingham MA. Hersey spent the last 20 years of his professional life as a fundraising consultant with Ward, Dreshman and Reinhart, helping churches, hospitals, and social service agencies from cost to cost raise dollars to further their reach and mission.

Hersey is survived by his wife of 66 years Joan they had two sons, Richard Taylor of Vashon WA and Robert Taylor, deceased and three grandchildren, Jonathan Taylor of Seattle WA, Rebecca Taylor of Sydney Australia, and Jennifer Taylor of Somerville MA. Hersey was very active in the Cape community serving as a volunteer at the Cape Cod National Seashore, on the Board of the Visiting Nurses Association, The vestry of his church, The Church of the Holy Spirit, and was an active member for over 60 years of King Hiram’s Masonic lodge in Provincetown MA.

Visiting Hours will be held at Nickerson’s Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Parkway, Orleans MA, on Thursday June 7 from 10:00- 11:30. Funeral Service will be Thursday June 7 at 2:00 at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans.
