Jovita Martinez, 99, went home to be with our Lord on June 5, 2018 surrounded by her children, and well cared for by Encompass Hospice and Armour Oaks Senior Living Facility. Born on August 23, 1918 in Leon, GTO, Mexico, Jovita moved to Holiday, KS at an early age with her family, where she met her beloved husband, Carlos. Becoming a young widow at age 33 with four children, Jovita worked many jobs to support her family, retiring from C.S.C. Credit Bureau. She was a member of the Free Bees Quilting Club at OLHP Redemptorist Church, and an active member of Sacred Heart Guadalupe Parish for many years.
She is Preceded in death by her parents, Eligio and Gregoria Hernandez; husband, Carlos Martinez; brothers, Mariono, Nick, Joe, Alex, and Manuel (Angie); sisters, Linda (Fidencio) Hernandez, Mary (Paul) Rojas; and daughter, Marylou Aguilar. Survivors include sister, Virginia Martinez, of Raytown; three children, Joe (Josie) Martinez of Olathe, Maria de Jesus Rodgers of California, and Virginia Martinez (Don) Crowe of Kansas City, 16 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 34 great-great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who loved her very much. May she rest in peace and never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Guadalupe Church, 2544 Madison, on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 with viewing at 10:00 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., and burial following directly afterwards in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Donations can be made in her honor at Guadalupe Center, 1015 Avenida Cesar Chavez, KCMO, 64108.
