Vincent Frank Labue passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018. He was 93 years old. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Angelina “Tillie” Guercia Labue. Loving father of Christine Labue Koviach (the late Freddie), Camille Labue Thompson (Addison) and Salvador Vincent Labue. Grandfather of Jeffery Addison Thompson, Stacie Labue Frey (Matthew) and Samuel “Sam” Vincent Labue; four great-grandchildren, Seth Addison Thompson, Nicholas Vincent James Thompson, Angelina Grace Thompson, Grayson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the loving brother the late Marie Labue Boudreaux, August, Anthony, and Charles Labue. He will also be sadly missed by Warren, Candice, Shannon, Gaige, Savanah and Laura.
Vincent was born on November 24, 1924 in Algiers, Louisiana, to the late Charles Labue and Christina Campagne Labue. He was a long-time resident of New Orleans, before moving to Slidell 18 years ago. He was a resident of Oak Park Village (formerly Live Oak) for the last 6 years.
He was a machinist by trade, and worked for J&L Steel and National Gypsum. Vincent was a proud WWII Veteran, serving in the Navy as a Water Tender Third Class, and assigned to the USS Brookings and the USS Barnwell of the Pacific Command. He was awarded numerous awards, such as the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
Vincent had a kind heart, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was an avid Saints fan, refusing to go down on one knee, and was the Bingo King of his family. He was much loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend special thanks to those who made a difference in his life, and theirs, over the last several months: Treena, Tammy, Hannah, Sheree, Ms. Laura, Jeanie, Mr. Jim & Ms. Gwen, Angie, Velma, Pastor Barb and Sharon P., as well as those at Canon Hospice: “Pink Shirt” Joyce, Ann, Kathleen, Rayna, Carissa, Denise, Christina and Terry.
A visitation will be held for Vincent on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. VIRTUE ST., in Chalmette from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM, with a funeral service at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest, with Military Honors, in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
