Deepest sympathies and love to Val and the family. I was one of Crick's many residents that he mentored, guided and molded.  Crick was an integral part of shaping my career and I will value his guidance for years to come.  A wonderful gentleman, dentist, mentor, friend. I am without a doubt a better person for knowing him and feel so very fortunate to have been able to be one of his many proteges. I have and will continue to hold him in the highest regard, always.

Crick was a mentor to me as a former dental resident at Richland (class of ‘89).  It was definitely the best decision of my professional career to invest one more year and spend with the RMH crew!  30 years later and I still carry those learned skills in my everyday practice and Crick was a huge part of my education in that regard!  Ellen and I have many fond memories of “lake time” at Crick and Val’s with “Skip-dawg” and other residents gathering!  Later in our careers we both met up at the dental school in Augusta and wouldn’t you know I’m now “teaching”in the GPR program there ( I’m a Ga boy) passing along knowledge I learned from Crick (and others) and my daughter is about to start dental school in two weeks!  My comfort and condolences to Val and Jimbo and countless friends and family.   You definitely left an indelible mark on me, and my family!  Dr. Pee-trY!  Seemed  he had nicknames for everybody!

Wow, I was at a loss for words when I got the phone call from my mom on the passing of uncle mike .. my grandmother married into the family when I was two years old , what a great man he was , I have so many childhood memories with him and Val . I really looked up to him and enjoyed spending time with them when I was growing up . He loved aunt Valerie unconditionally without a doubt, they were like salt and pepper they just fit together . I pray for Valerie and uncle Jimbo to find comfort and peace through this difficult time in knowing he’s I longer suffering and he’s  walking those paved streets of gold now and probably found a boat or some drums somewhere in heaven .. much love to all the family ~Malorie ~ (pooterhead) 

This morning, I was shocked to read about Michael's passing.  As a member of the original Spyrles combo, Michael and I shared many wonderful experiences together.  Though our paths never crossed again after high school, I still have the fondest memories of Mike, Jimbo, and his wonderful parents.   My sincerest condolences to his wife,  Jim (his brother), and his family,

Some people always stay with you! And Mike “Crick” was one of those. I had the honor of serving on 3M’s inaugural  Council of Innovative Dentistry with him.  Not only was Mike an incredible dentist, mentor, but a loving husband, and a man that I can call a dear friend.  His love of people, smiles, and dentistry were profound and set examples for all of us to follow. He certainly left the world better and he will be missed by many!


We were incredibly fortunate to meet and to get to know Mike through our friendship with Val.   Mike loved Val so very much and both were incredibly generous with their gift of friendship, and it was a friendship we treasured. They welcomed us into their circles of the annual ski trips to Park City, where we met their wonderfully gracious friends and also were lucky to meet Jimbo.  After a fun day of group skiing, I remember listening to their growing up stories and knowing from these stories, and just observing Mike around others, just how much family and friends meant to him and I saw the genuine kindness he extended to others.  Mike was smart, direct, funny, warm hearted, caring and his love of Val was so clear and obvious from the first time we met him.  He was kindhearted, respectful and had a gentleness about him that was so authentic and so genuine.  He always made you feel welcome and at ease.   We felt fortunate when Mike and Val came to visit and stayed with us in Boston one weekend for a Clemson game and wished they had stayed longer.  Our hearts are broken apart for Val and Jimbo.  We feel incredibly fortunate that our paths crossed and that Mike was our friend.  He left too soon, and our thoughts are with Val, Jimbo, and the wide circle of  family and friends that loved him so dearly.   Helen & Matt

Crick was a lifelong friend. We grew up in the same neighborhood and shared many life experiences. Crick was definetly a leader. He and I played music together for years. Leader of the band in every way. The adult in the room surrounded by nuts! Love you and gonna miss you!


Mike lead the first band I was in...…..He helped me gain confidence in my skills and gave me a good perspective on musicianship.  All while dealing with a bunch of strong willed, passion, and goofy fellas. He was kind and shared his great joy in playing.  I have only good memories of a good man.

Many memories and knowledge was passed on to me while at Richland.  I will remember his love for his profession, music, and family.  His kind heart was shared with many.  

 I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Crick. He was an amazing musician and a good friend to me back when we played music together in bands in the early 70s. My condolences to the family and blessings to all. 

Sad news! Mike and i were in school together and he lived around the block from me. His brother Jimbo and my brother were best friends for years. He was a good guy. Gone too soon.

Crick was an incredible man! We first met on the golf course playing league golf with the Richland Memorial Hospital Team out at Oak Hills Country Club. We both drove 91 Acura Legends, and immediately connected with each other. We were friends, golf buddies, social buddies, who also enjoyed a libation, or two. We made many golf trips together, and we frequently had some incredible rounds and camaraderie playing as a team. I enjoyed all the times I was invited to functions with his band the Ninth Row. We had some great Hanger Parties in Greenville, and he was my Dentist for 20 years. He also introduced me to some very incredible friends. I loved him. I'm so sorry for his wife Valerie, and his brother Jimbo. This is a most difficult time for all of us, but particularly his immediate family. I sincerely pray for you guys. I know where Crick is, and I know Heaven has received a very special man, an Angel for sure. Here's to you my old friend!
