Louise was born to Charles Glassmire and Kittie Downey in Amoret, Missouri on May 7, 1923. She was one of 9 children, which included 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Louise worked for Fluor Corporation after graduating from high school.
It was at Fluor she met her husband of 53 years, Jay Burrows Jr. After marriage, Jay and Louise would move all over the US and out of the country…a total of over 45 moves, finally retiring in Texas. In the midst of all the moving, they raised 4 children, Jennifer, Janelle, Jay and Mary Jean. Both Jay and Louise impressed on their children the benefits of hard work and a job well done, but also the value of making time to enjoy family and friends.
The greatest portion of Louise’s life was spent caring for her family and providing them a loving home. Louise was an amazing letter writer who rarely missed a birthday of a family member or friend. She also enjoyed cooking healthy food, spending time with family, attending church, reading, playing cards, journaling, reading her Bible, and gardening. Watching sports was a major diversion for her, baseball (especially the games of her grandsons but also the Astros), college basketball (but also the Rockets), and even golf. A lifelong Presbyterian (with a few Methodist moments), she relished attending church and the friends she made there. In her later years, especially, she frequently shared the favorite phrases “Keep Calm and Carry On” and “Let Go, Let God” with those she came in contact. She was known for offering words of wisdom.
Louise is survived by her step-daughter Karen and her husband, Ray, and their children; by daughter Jennifer and her husband, Lin, and their children; by daughter Janelle and her husband, Andre, and their children; by son Jay, and his wife, Kim, and their children; by daughter Mary Jean and her husband, Craig, and their children. Many thanks are given by Louise’s family for the blessings of the many kind and hard-working caretakers who helped make her later years more comfortable.
