Shirley Fay

Shirley was born in Spokane on April 21, 1926 of Boyd Fetterly and Helen (Engle) Fetterly. She had a younger brother Robert.
Shirley attended West Valley High School and Deer Park High School. After World War II she married the man of her life and eternal sweet heart, Harold Edward Skinner on December 31, 1946. Their marriage celebrated 71 years of marital happiness.
Shirley worked at the University of Idaho to help “put hubby through.” Later, during a scholarship year in Europe she studied for a time in Paris and eastern France. Her real interest was as a major player in bringing up three daughters and family life. Shirley’s life-long hobby was oil painting and sketching, and a legacy is cherished artwork.
Shirley was an active member of Central Christian Church, which became Origin Church. During retirement she enjoyed cruises, foreign travel and veterans’ reunions with her husband. She devoted a number of years as a volunteer of Meals on Wheels, serving also as a Camp Fire Leader and Sunday School Teacher.
Shirley is survived by Harold and their three daughters: Danielle Craig, of Warner Robins, Georgia; Julie Banks of Spokane, Washington; and Annette Barnhill of Missoula, Montana. She also had six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Shirley joined the celestial choir on June 9, 2018. A service celebrating her life is Saturday, June 23 at 11:00a.m. at Origin Church with a reception, story telling and memory sharing following. Shirley’s Committal Service is at Rockford Cemetery, Tuesday, June 26, 2018, 11:00a.m. in Rockford, Washington. No flowers are requested. Instead, a charitable gift may be given to Hospice of Spokane or to a favorite charity.
