Born in Brooklyn, NY of Italian immigrants, Giuseppe and Giacomina Mingari, Joseph Mingari served in the US Air Force and became a professional firefighter serving on the North Plainfield Fire Department from 1960 until retiring as Captain in 1982. He also served on the North Plainfield Rescue Squad during that time. He attended The National Fire Academy in Maryland, and received an Associates degree from Ocean County College. He became a NJ State Certified Fire Training Instructor, teaching classes for many years throughout NJ & NY. Working for the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, he retired from public service in the mid 1990s as Director of Fire Service Training.
Living his retirement years in Bayville, NJ, he continued to enjoy his many hobbies which included photography, home-video editing, music, fishing, gardening, exercising, bike riding, cooking, taking in a good Yankees game, and spending time with family and friends. Throughout his lifetime he always had a camera close at hand, capturing so many wonderful moments with his keen artistic eye for composition and light, for which he took first place in the Kodak International Snapshot Awards. He enjoyed a good swing dance at a wedding, leisure travel around the northeast, and destinations such as Italy and Hawaii. Far and wide, Joseph will be greatly missed by so many who knew and loved him.
Joseph passed away at Leisure Park Nursing Home in Lakewood, NJ and is survived by his former wife Edith Margaret Mingari, daughter Lisa Ann Mingari-Brophy and her husband Thomas; son Joseph James Mingari; son Michael Thomas Mingari and his wife Nancy and their two children Ella and Andrew; sister MaryAnn Courtney and her children: Jacki Hundertpfund & her son Alex, Jimmy Courtney, Debi Courtney & her daughter Ava.
