Mrs. Nora Lassiter Mangum, 91, a life-long resident of High Point passed away peacefully on Monday June 11, 2018 at Novant Hospital in Kernersville. She was born February 20, 1927 in High Point, to Irving M. and Vivian Isola Carter Lassiter. She married William Curtis Mangum in 1946 when he returned from World War II. Together she and Bill created a business and a family.
Nora’s life centered on her love for her family. As the fifth of nine children, she loved sharing her wit and laughter with her sisters and brothers. At holidays, the best seat in the house was always at the “sisters’ table.”
Nora was a devoted wife, mother and “Nanna” to her granddaughter and great-grandchildren; she showered them all with unconditional love and support. She loved spending time with them at Sunday lunches, vacations at the beach, and traveling. She shared with them her sense of style, wisdom, and resilience.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her siblings, Mac Lassiter, Virginia Lassiter Royal and Carter Lassiter.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Mangum Phillips and husband Jim of High Point, granddaughter, Ashley Witcher Simpson and husband Sam of Greensboro; great grandchildren, Chandler, Sam and Isabelle Simpson; sisters, Martha L. Meredith of High Point, Irvene L. Hyatt of Charlotte, Pat L. Sowers and husband George of Orlando, FL, Nancy L. Simpson of High Point and brother, Chase Lassiter and wife Gail of Greensboro as well as many nieces and nephews.
A private cryptside service for family and extended family will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum conducted by her great-niece, The Reverend Lisa Royal McLennan.
