She graduated from La Joya High School in La Joya, Texas in 1945 as Salutatorian. She attended University of Texas - Pan American College (then Edinburg Jr. College) in Edinburg, Texas. Tommie was a substitute teacher for La Joya High School for two years. Later on she enrolled into Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing in Austin, Texas in 1947. In 1950, she graduated with her nursing degree as a RN. She married the love of her life, Ted H. Forsythe on April 16, 1954 in Austin, Texas.
Tommie’s faith was important to her. She was a member of First Baptist Church. During this time she worked in the nursery for 23 years and was involved in the Downtown Bible Class.
She was involved in many organizations. She was a past president of the Lubbock Garden Club, active in Girl Scouts, a member of AMA Alliance, TMA Alliance, LCG County Alliance and in the PTA for both LISD and Lubbock Christian School.
Tommie is preceded in death by her parents, brother Roy O Baker, Jr., first husband Capt. RR Davis USAF (Korea) and husband of 56 years, Ted H. Forsythe, MD.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Lisa Spearman of Pampa, TX, Laura Forsythe (Dewayne) of Justin, TX and Leigh Hogg (Steve) of Lamesa, TX; son Michael Ted Forsythe (Robin); 7 grandchildren: Amy Gamblin (Kyle), Duncan, Gage, Gracee, Reid Spearman (Kim), Rhett, Rogan, Ryan Spearman and Heidi Schwope all of Pampa, Andy Hogg (Katrina), Korbin, Ansleigh of Canton, KS, Matt Hogg (Amanda), Maddison, and Piper, all of O’Donnell, J.W. Gallion (Shelby), Raydn of Plainview and Petyon Forsythe of Lubbock.
Our family would like to thank all of mom’s caregivers: Sharla, Suzanne, Tommie and Mary, and all of the Hospice of Lubbock Staff who were so caring and loving to mom and to all of us. In lieu of flowers all memorials can be made to Hospice of Lubbock.
