Melvin J. LaFave died June 11, 2018 in Marysville, MI. He was born in 1926 in Detroit. Mel married Laura Decreane in 1948, in Detroit at St. Jude Catholic Church; she preceded him in death in 2012. Mel served in WW2 as a mechanic in the US Army for 2.5 years. He worked at Shedd’s Food Products for 45 years. Mel enjoyed playing golf, baseball, and bowling and was an avid watcher of the Detroit Tigers. He also enjoyed making several woodworking projects for his family. Mel served as an usher for St. Jude of Detroit for 50 years. After moving to Clinton Township he ushered at St. Thecla for 10 years. Mel enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by John (Lori) LaFave, Robert (Sue) LaFave, Debra (Paul) Hamann, and Keith LaFave; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Charles LaFave, Yvonne LaFave; daughter-in-law’s Marilyn & Julie LaFave. Melvin was the oldest of 14 children he is survived by, Theresa, Ralph, Donald, Lawrence, William, Mary, Robert, and Catherine. Visitation for Mel will be Wednesday June 13, from 3-8pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Road, Clinton Township. Funeral Service will be Thursday June 14, 10:00am at St. Thecla, 36650 Little Mack Ave, Charter Twp. of Clinton, MI 48035. Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
