Charles Vandenburg, 93, passed peacefully in his sleep of natural causes on June 11, 2018 at Deerfield Retirement Community.
Mr. Vandenburg was one of the original families of Valley Junction. He was the community pharmacist for 62 years, owning Vandenburg Drug Store. He was a member of West Des Moines Christian Church, Rotary International, Grand Lodge of Iowa and the Historic Valley Junction Association. He loved dancing, spending time with his family and taking care of horses on his acreage.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlyne. Surviving are his children, Cheryl Martin (Dave) of Nevada, Sue Felt of Des Moines, and Chuck II (Margaret) of Overland Park, KS; 8 grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 3 pm, Friday, June 22 at West Des Moines Christian Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment of the cremated remains with military honors will be at 10 am, Saturday, June 23 at Resthaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Historic Valley Junction Foundation or HCI Care Services.
