A private family graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 17, 2018. Arrangements are under the direction of Tyler Memorial Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas.
James was born on December 29, 1943 to the late John K. and Alma Baker in Vernon, Texas. James is a member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler where he served faithfully to greet those at the door coming in for church services. He loved his Sunday School class and those he built friendships with during his time there. James volunteered for Meals on Wheels weekly to deliver meals to those in need. He enjoyed serving others and visiting with many regular and new faces each week. James was an Electrician for Vesuvius for 23 years and retired in 2008. James was a strong man loved by many and brought so much joy to others throughout his journey. He was married to his wife Michelle for 54 years. A great and faithful example of love and commitment. He will be missed by us all.
Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his five brothers, T.L. Baker, George Baker, Kenneth Baker, Melvin Baker, and Gary Don Baker.
His is survived by his wife, Michelle Marie Baker; Daughter, Christine Harper and son-in-law Mel Harper, Sons; James Heath Baker and daughter in-law Toni Snead Baker, Stephen Baker and Matthew Baker. Sisters; Peggy Gillespie, June Rich, Dorothy Hall, Judy Stidam, Linda Wright and Jewel Smith. Brother; Danny Baker, Two Grandchildren, Brandon Baker and Kayla Hill. Nephews; Cary Upton and Barry Upton along with other many nieces and nephews.
