Alice Barbara Lehr, 78, died on June 21, 2018 after a brief and unexpected illness. She had resided in Liberty, MO, since 1972. Barbara was born September 19, 1939, in Sanger, CA to Samuel and Opal Schmidt. She graduated from Reedley, CA High School in1957. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from Central Missouri State University; as well as Masters and Specialist degrees in Education from UMKC. Barbara’s career in education as a teacher spanned over 25 years in the Liberty Public School District. Barbara was active in many ways at St. James Catholic Church in Liberty, MO. She especially enjoyed providing a weekly Communion Ministry at Liberty Hospital. She also devoted her time to Our Lady of Mercy Country Home in Liberty, as well as at the Assistance League of Kansas City.
Barbara is survived by 5 children: Coleen and Rick Weller (Maggie, Jake, Luke, Libby) Rayville, MO; Charleen Dwyer, LA CA; Tony and Vicki Lehr (Mark, Betsy) Gladstone MO; Michael and Jill Lehr (Hal, Andrew, Ann-Marie, Greta) Kearney MO; and Joe Lehr, Seattle WA. She was thrilled to have her first great-grandchild, Rosemary, born in December, 2017 to Maggie and Vern Estes. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Andrew Marrion Lehr, and by her parents Samuel and Opal Schmidt. She is survived by two brothers: Samuel Schmidt (Christina), and Donald Schmidt; her sister Beverly Gent (Charles), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 25th at St. James Catholic Church from 5-8 p.m., with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 26th at 10 a.m., also at St. James. A luncheon will be provided at the church following burial at Resurrection Cemetery in KC MO.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. James Building Fund, or to Our Lady of Mercy Country Home.
