Peggy Pusey Reynolds, 84, passed away on June 26, 2018. Peggy was born in Clinton, NC, the daughter of Maddie Eva Matthews Pusey and Walter Stanford Pusey. One of four daughters, she was known for her athletic prowess in high school where she earned the nickname “Sureshot” on the basketball team. Having met future husband Ted at age 13, she married once he returned from the Navy and she completed studies at East Carolina Teacher’s College.
The couple moved to Raleigh in 1960. A devoted wife and mother, she spent many hours shepherding daughter Kim to horse shows and son David to tennis matches across the region. As charter members of Benson Memorial United Methodist Church, she and Ted were active in church life. She was a dedicated member of the Woman’s Club of Raleigh where she volunteered as a docent at the Governor’s Mansion and Meals on Wheels.
Her competitive streak continued in adulthood when she took up tennis and played for many years until rheumatoid arthritis took its toll. As a spectator, she was a particularly devoted follower of tennis, ice hockey and basketball, and could be counted on for game commentary and highlights. Later, she took great pride in seeing her grandsons excel in their chosen sports and attended as many games as she was able. When not caring for family, she would often escape to Wrightsville Beach with her best friends for girls time. Once she and Ted moved downtown, “Miss Peggy” was a beloved presence at Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern.
She was predeceased by husband Theodore “Ted” Reaves Reynolds of 64 years as well as sisters Joyce Romine and Mary Elizabeth Meier.
She is survived by her sister Notre Yarborough of Clinton, NC; daughter, Kim Reynolds (Rod) Garnas; son, David (Jesma) Reaves Reynolds; and three grandchildren, David Reynolds, Jr., Ewan Reynolds, and Reynolds Garnas.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, June 28th from 5-7pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh. A graveside service will take place on Friday, June 29th at 3pm at Raleigh Memorial Park.
