A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held two hours prior to service, at the mortuary. She will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society. Daughter of John Wayne and Anna Mae (Marshall) Crowner (both deceased – John in 1991, Anna in 1993). Also preceded in death by two sisters: Carol Anne Miller in 2000 and Linda Crowner in 1949 and three brothers, Ronald Wayne Crowner in 1999, James William Crowner in 2006, and John W. Crowner, Jr. in 2011. Surviving siblings include a brother Michael (Terri) Crowner, Burlington, IA and a sister Martica (Stephen) Polewchak, Madison, OH. Married Gerald Wayne (Gary) Ball on January 24, 1959, in West Burlington, IA. Gary is a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Navy. They have two daughters, Kelly Elizabeth Ball, Aiea, HI; Tracey Ellen Ball, Sykesville, MD, and one son, Gary Wayne (Ball) Kehner and wife Susan, Elizabeth City, NC. One granddaughter, Christine Renee (Coggiano) Crampton, husband Matthew, serving as a Major in the U.S. Army; two grandsons, Nicholas Michael Coggiano, wife Toni, Brooklyn, MD; Andrew Kehner, Elizabeth City, NC; three great granddaughters: Christine Renee Coggiano-Chun, Denver, CO; Kaila Lynn Coggiano, Brooklyn, MD; Drew Reagan Crampton, Fort Leavenworth, KS; and two great grandsons, Chance Coggiano, Brooklyn, MD; and James Crampton, Fort Leavenworth, KS. Upon graduation from high school Ms. BalI worked as a secretary at International Resistor Corporation in Burlington, IA before leaving to join her husband in the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean in June of 1959. She also worked for the federal government for 22 years, 18 years spent working for the U.S. Navy Department. She retired in 1994 from the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island. In Annapolis, MD she worked as an administrative assistant and assisted the show manager at Shows, Inc., Virginia Wine Festivals, and the Annual Powerboat and Sailboat Shows. Ms. BalI also worked for Chesapeake Engineering and Design, Inc., as a deposition outliner. As a Navy wife in Rota, Spain, served as a Girl Scout Leader for the Junior Girl Scouts. Helped to establish a Day Camp for Girl Scouts on Yerba Buena Island at Treasure Island, CA. For five years with her husband and other family members assisted in the care of her ailing parents.
Her hobbies included: piano, reading, traveling, computer, fishing, all types of card games, and loved to go to Vegas with her “gambling buddies.” Gary and Dorothy have done a lot of traveling and have visited over 35 countries, all 50 states, all but one Territory before settling down in Bettendorf, Iowa.
