Born on September 27, 1927 in Franklin Township of Greene County, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late James Judson and Lurena Goins Hildreth.
Mr. Hildreth enlisted in January 1946 and was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in August 1952, during which time he was stationed in Germany.
He worked as a self-employed carpenter until his retirement in 1992.
Mr. Hildreth was a member of Roney’s Point Presbyterian Church in Triadelphia, WV, and had made many friends at Corinth United Methodist Church in Winder, GA where he was known as Mr. Ben.
He enjoyed growing vegetable and flower gardens, watching the birds and squirrels that visited his feeders, listening to music, especially classical and Oktoberfest tunes, going out for ice cream as often as possible, and most of all, spending time with his loved ones, friends, grandpups and grandkitties.
On August 21, 1954 he married Bess Riggle who passed away February 19, 2015.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon (Robert) Fisher of Winder, GA; a son, David Hildreth of Valley Grove, WV; three sisters, Ellen White of Greensboro, PA; Myra Gibson of Rogersville, PA; Nancy (Bertil) Hanson of Dalton, OH; one brother, Carl Hildreth of Sycamore, PA; many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends.
Deceased are two brothers, James Hildreth and Curtis Hildreth; one sister, Jennifer Joan Fritz; and two nephews, Stephen Hildreth and Andrew Gibson.
The family is grateful to all who prayed, spoke words of encouragement and comfort, rendered assistance and visited when able.
Mr. Hildreth would have said, “Thank you for your service; you did good.”
A gathering of remembrance will be held at a future date.
