Elizabeth Luecke Brondos was born on December 17, 1929, in Dallas, TX to Amelia Katherine nee Heiner and Dr. Percy Luecke, Sr., and baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Dallas. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Concordia College, River Forest, IL and then returned to Zion Lutheran Church and School, teaching kindergarten and serving as secretary to the pastor. After several years of teaching she moved to St. Louis and joined the secretarial staff at the Academic Dean's office at Concordia Lutheran Seminary. At the seminary she met Andrew Brondos, with whom she married on July 10, 1954. Together they served congregations in Ontario, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Arkansas throughout almost 60 years of ministry.
She was an accomplished organist and church musician, served as the Dean of the American Guild of Organists chapter in Fort Smith, AR., served as regional vice president of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, sang with numerous choirs, and passed her love of music to her children and grandchildren. She began learning the art of calligraphy around age 50 and subsequently helped found both the Fort Smith Calligraphy Guild and the Memphis Calligraphy Guild. Her works included many wedding invitations, diplomas, scripture passages and other works of art.
She enjoyed a wide variety of other endeavors, including teaching English as a Second Language, using her Spanish language skills in multiple volunteer service activities, and engaging in arts and crafts.
All who knew her found her an inexhaustible fountain of energy and enthusiasm, never lacking in time or commitment to serve, teach, encourage, and challenge.
Visitation at Grove Hill Chapel will be from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday, July 7, including evening prayer and hymn sing. Interment and prayer liturgy will be Saturday, July 8 at 10:00 AM. A memorial service of celebration will be held in early August in Dallas.
