Donald R. Clemens, 81, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2018. As a young man, he attended Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington, later attended classes at the University of Washington in the area of electrical engineering. Don then went on to a successful career as a dispatcher for Tacoma City Light.
As an avid skier, Don spent many winters on Mt Rainier. He enjoyed helping others learn to ski. Don’s love for the sea allowed him to spend many hours fishing the waters of Puget Sound. The family fondly remembers Don building several sail boats in the back yard.
In his retirement years, Don enjoyed traveling with his RV. He made many trips visiting family and doting on his grandchildren. Don often talked about sailing to Alaska. Instead, he had to settle for a much-loved cruise to Alaska with his family. On the cruise, he sat for many hours each day watching the sea and following the ship’s course through the inland passage.
In 2014, he relocated to Capital Manor Retirement Community in Salem, Oregon. He spent many happy hours designing and building woodworking projects. His specialty was handcrafted toy wooden bulldozers.
Don is survived by his four children, Todd of Tacoma, Chris of Salem, David of Arlington, VA, and Denise Popiel of Portland. Don had three wonderful grandchildren (Wesley, Katie, and Lucia).
At Don's request, no funeral or memorial service was conducted.
