Darrel McCabe, 90, of Bartonville, Illinois, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 2, 1928 in Peoria Heights, Illinois to Willard and Rose (Mansker) McCabe. He married Lela Mae Chrestenson on February 14, 1953 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2001 in Bartonville, Illinois. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Rose Spitzer and three sisters.
He is survived by four children, Dorine (Gene) Munsell of Peoria, Illinois, Patrick McCabe of Bartonville, Illinois, Peggy McCabe of Peoria, Illinois and Kelly (Bruce Watson) Humphrey of Farmington, Illinois; one son in law, Tom Spitzer; 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He has many nieces and nephews.
Darrel was a millwright at Keystone Steel and Wire Company, where he worked 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the Bartonville American Legion Post #979. He was an avid CUBS, Bears, Bulls and University of Illinois fan. He enjoyed bowling and fishing. He was a master carpenter. Darrel was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bartonville.
A funeral mass will be at 10 am Friday, July 13, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Father David Heinz will officiate. Visitation will be from 5pm until 7pm at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel on Thursday with a prayer service at 6:30pm. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service on Friday at his church. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.
