Joan Margaret Weber Hayes entered into heavenly rest at dawn on July 9, 2018 at Papillion Manor. Joan was born on December 28, 1937 to Sylvester and Dorothea (Vogt) Weber at Butte, NE, the second of nine children. She moved from Boyd County to Richardson County in 1939. She attended grade school and graduated in 1955 from Shubert High School. Joan moved to Omaha and worked until her marriage on November 8, 1958 to Edward Leland Hayes. They made their home west of Springfield and raised six children: Kimberly, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Scott, Eric and Desiree. Joan worked as a janitor at Platteview High School, in customer service at Commercial Federal Bank and Oriental Trading Company before retiring.
Joan loved spending time with her family, monthly dinners with her sisters, playing cards, keeping extensive scrapbooks for each of her children, and gardening. She did her own home remodeling, built doll houses for her granddaughters and performed much of her own auto maintenance. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Springfield.
She leaves behind her children, Kimberly (Richard) Small of Monticello, ME, Jennifer (Theodore) Vasko of Papillion, Scott (Julie) Hayes of Tekamah, Eric Hayes of Springfield, Desiree (George) Cheshek of Gretna; her beloved siblings, Donald (Sue) Weber of Camdenton, MO, Karen Strasheim of Springfield, Betty Schulenberg of Falls City, and Patricia (Kirby) Poppert of Lincoln; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
