James Oliver Vosseller, III (Jim) passed away on July 16th, 2018 at the age of 80. Born March 4,1938 in Pensacola, Florida and a resident of Jacksonville, Florida for over 55 years, Jim graduated Georgetown Preparatory School (Jesuit boarding school in Bethesda, MD) and College of the Holy Cross (Jesuit college in Worcester, MA). Upon graduating college in 1959, he was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy where he served for 3 years.
After a training period at Merrill Lynch in New York as a stockbroker, Jim moved to Jacksonville and began working with Merrill Lynch. After several years, he moved to Reynolds Securities which became Dean Witter Reynolds. He later switched to Nations Bank which became Bank of America where he retired.
Jim was dearly loved by his family and friends. Always the gentleman, Jim had a way of making people feel comfortable with his graciousness. His compassion and genteel nature were of another generation; no one was more mannerly, thoughtful, or genuine. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and could crack up a room with his one liners! His loves included his family, golf, good wine, Jaguars football, and a really great joke.
He was a longtime parishioner of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. He served many roles in his parish from lecturer to eucharistic minister to CCD teacher, even teaching his two children, Jamie and Turner.
Jim will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Captain James Oliver Vosseller, Jr., USN and Mary Leontine Turner Vosseller, Pensacola, FL. He is survived by his wife Anne A. Vosseller and his children, Jamie A. Vosseller, Atlanta, GA and James Turner Vosseller, M.D. (Klee), New York, NY, as well as his brother, Captain Richard Turner Vosseller, USN (Retired) (Martha), Vienna, VA and sister, Susan Vosseller Jordan (Bill), Tallahassee, FL.
Funeral services will be held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s name to St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.
