LaVonne Mae Pyle Perkins was born January 3rd, 1933 and passed away July 19, 2018 after a brief illness. She leaves behind her son Gary, daughter in-law Brenda, and granddaughter Alyssa. She is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Zediker, nieces Linda, Chris, Tracy, Stacy and nephew Clark.
Born to Linda and Oris Pyle, LaVonne grew up in Schaller, Iowa. In addition to her sister, Dorothy, her siblings included Coreene and Donnie. In 1958 LaVonne married Donald Perkins from Holstein, Iowa. LaVonne was a cook for many years at various restaurants and was then a stay at home mom while Don was a trucker. After retirement, they moved to Victoria, Texas in 1986.
LaVonne had a very colorful sense of humor and loved to tell stories about the many pranks she played throughout her life. A few of them follow. She secretly taught herself how to drive her dad’s stick shift car while her parents went to church weekly. She later “stole” her dad’s car to go to Holstein with friends. She and some friends put a pig in the school house on Halloween one year. She smoked a cigar on a dare. She put a pop up snake in the flour container so her co-worker would “find it” at the restaurant in Holstein. LaVonne’s quick wit and no-nonsense attitude will be missed by her loved ones.
A visitation for LaVonne will be held Monday, July 23, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM at Colonial Funeral Home, 1801 East Red River Street, Victoria, Texas. Graveside services will follow at 10:00 AM at Memory Gardens Cemetery, US Highway 87 North, Victoria, Texas.
