We celebrate the life and adventures of Troy Smallwood. The Lord blessed all of us who knew him with 91 years of service to his Lord and family. Throughout Troy’s life his priorities were God, family, and country. He served his Lord with distinction throughout his life serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and everyday witness to the amazing love of his Father. As a husband he loved his faithful wife, Ruth, fully through 70 years of marriage. He raised each of his children in the knowledge of the Lord and prepared them well for the life ahead. In service to his country, he gave 24 years to the US Army serving in the 82nd Airborne and two wars: World War II and the Korean War.
Troy enjoyed talking about the Lord and knew scripture like the back of his hand. He loved spending time with his family through activities like camping and fishing. He enjoyed his walks and playing on the harmonica. Of all the activities the one in which he found the most individual satisfaction was gardening where he would spend hours tilling the ground and preparing it for planting, watering and feeding, and finally to harvest the fruit (or vegetables) of his labor. Amazing how one of his greatest passions emulated the One he served. Through it all you could always count on hearing the soft loving whistle of a man content with his life.
Thank you for your loving example of serving our Lord.
Until we meet again.... in heaven.
