Alice M. Drown (Cahill) of Brewster, MA (1927) passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on July 23, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Richard M. Drown who died in 1973. Devoted mother of Stephen A. Drown and his wife Ellen of N. Easton, Richard D. Drown and his wife Sharon of Brewster, Jeffrey M. Drown and his wife Donna of Brewster and daughter Deborah A. Drown and her wife Leslie McArthur of Wellfleet.
Alice was the daughter of the late Lt. Col. Thomas H. Cahill and wife Genevieve (Cross) Cahill. She was predeceased by her twin brother Dr. Alan T. Cahill and her brother Vincent E. Cahill.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jessica, Bryon, Caitlin, Patrick, Zach, Alex and Ansel, sisters-in-law Gena Cahill, Priscilla Gadapee and Kathy Drown of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
After high school, Alice graduated from Lasell Jr. College and Boston University PAL. In 1949 Alice and Dick were married in Watertown, MA. In 1961 they bought their Little Piece of Heaven by the Bay in Brewster. They raised their family in Holliston, MA and in 1986 she moved permanently to Brewster. Alice was very proud of her Irish Heritage from her Dad’s side and her Early American Heritage going back to the Revolutionary War on her Mother’s side (a DAR Member). She loved doing crosswords, reading mystery books, the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots and College Basketball. She loved cats, birds and elephants, in that order.
Family and friends are kindly invited to calling hours at the Nickerson Funeral Home in Orleans, MA on Thursday, July 26, 2018 between the hours of 5-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster, MA and burial at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Brewster, MA where she will be laid to rest next to her dear husband.
A celebration for family and friends will be held at Laurino’s Tavern on Route 6A in Brewster following the cemetery service.
