He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee and Bertha Mae Brown, and five siblings: Bobbie Windel, Faye Loe, Jack Brown, Roy Don Brown and Ray Brown. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Jacey Brown of Cypress, Texas, and granddaughter, Paige Ellen Brown; five siblings: Jessie Good of Orofino, Idaho, Sadie DeSimone of Billerica, Massachusetts, Frank Brown of Amarillo, Texas, Patsy Brown (location unknown), and Bonnie Cogdill of Squaw Valley, California; and many cousins, nephews and nieces who loved him dearly.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 and earned several medals. Following his service he worked in the oil field industry for the remainder of his working life before retiring in 2013. Throughout his life he was an avid billiards player, winning several awards as well as team and individual tournaments. He loved to read and was a lifelong learner with interests that covered a wide range of topics, including his favorite sports teams - the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers.
He was a quiet, soft-spoken man but also a straight-shooter with a quick, dry wit and a mischievous smile. He was proudest of his son David and took great delight in his new role as Paige’s Grandpa the last year of his life. Friends and family will miss his sense of humor and his unique, unmistakable whistle.
He will be interred at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 1:30PM, Monday August 13, 2018.
