Riyo "Lee" Corkery passed away at the age of 90 on the morning of July 25, 2018, in Tallahassee, Florida, from complications with pancreatitis.
Lee bravely immigrated to the United States from Japan at the end of World War II to marry her fiance, William F. Corkery, who died in 2011. A congressional bill granting a personal exception to American immigration laws was needed for Lee to come to the US. President Truman signed the bill into law on Valentine’s Day, 1950.
Lee selflessly devoted her adult life to being quite possibly the world's most wonderful mom to her seven children. Her warm smile and big heart will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held in Tallahassee on August 13, 11:00 AM, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment at Culley's Meadowwood Funeral Home will take place on August 15, 12 noon.
