of her savior, Jesus Christ. LaVaughn was born in Eakly, Oklahoma to her parents Lester and Elsie
Griffitts on October 19, 1940. She later relocated to California where she remained until 2008. She
attended Santa Fe Springs High School, Santa Fe, California. On January 6, 2004, she married the love of
her life, Gerald "Jerry" Miller in Norwalk, California. In the summer of 2008, Jerry and LaVaughn moved
to Millersburg, Oregon where she lived until her passing.
During her adult years she had many hobbies, but she is most well-known for her passion for painting
and teaching others to paint in water color, acrylic, and oil. She taught anyone that had an interest for
free! She continued to teach painting until two weeks prior to her passing. She shared another hobby
with her husband, which was archery. Both Jerry and LaVaughn were very accomplished archers’ and
competed regularly in club archery tournaments prior to relocating to Oregon. While in Millersburg, she
was active in her neighborhood and helped plan and put on the annual neighborhood block party.
Additionally, she was a fantastic cook and also dabbled in jewelry making for a time.
She was also a beloved member of the White Spires Berean Bible Fellowship Church community which
she was very active in. She regularly volunteered her time as the sunshine lady – sending cards to the
members for special occasions and major life events. She also participated in most of the churches
special events.
LaVaughn had an incredible way of making everyone feel at ease. She was well-known for her
hospitality and generosity. She genuinely cared for people as evidenced by the way she treated them.
Sadly, on February 26, 2018, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer, which
tragically took her life. She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Miller of Millersburg, OR; daughter,
Diane Rizzo of Freeland, California; daughter, Annette Standridge of Albany, OR; Son, Lester Standridge
of Bodfish, California, and Grandchildren Ashley and Andrew. She was also well loved by many friends,
fellow church members, and neighbors.
A memorial service is planned for 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 11 at White Spires Berean Bible
Fellowship Church located at 510 5th Avenue SW, Albany, OR 97321. In leu of flowers, please make a
donation to the White Spires Berean Bible Fellowship Church Organ repair fund in her name.
Special thanks to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice for the amazing care they gave LaVaughn in her final
days.
