William G. Lueckenhoff, 64, passed away on July 27, 2018 surrounded by his family after succumbing to a sudden acute illness. Visitation will be 6-8pm, Friday, August 3rd, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am, Saturday, at the church. Entombment to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph, 4001 Blue Pkwy, Ste. 250, Kansas City, MO 64130.
Will was born May 27th, 1954 in New York City and then moved to Kansas City as a young boy. He attended St. Bernadette School, O’Hara High School, Southwest Missouri State University and UMKC Law School. Will played varsity football at Southwest Missouri as a starter on the defensive line. He later played rugby at a high level in Kansas City and Chicago.
After graduation from law school, Will followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the FBI as a Special Agent. During his 25 year FBI career, he served in a number of FBI field offices across the country and at FBI Headquarters in Washington. Will spent a number of years in Chicago where he distinguished himself as an undercover agent and on the SWAT team. He later filled supervisory roles in Louisiana, New Mexico and West Virginia.
After retiring from the FBI, Will worked in a number of private sector security positions including more than two years in Iraq as a law enforcement advisor to the military. After many years of career-driven relocations, Will and his wife chose to return to their beloved hometown of Kansas City. While in Kansas City, Will worked for Catholic Charities and later as a private investigator. Will was an active parishioner of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was an avid fan of the Chiefs and Royals, even over his years living far from Kansas City.
Will was known for his generosity and his determination to help others in need. These traits were particularly exemplified through his employment at Catholic Charities and his volunteer work. Will was also known for his humor and ability to entertain friends and family through his hilarious storytelling. He was deeply loved by all who knew him.
Will was preceded in death by his parents George and Genevieve Lueckenhoff. Will is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 38 years, Trina Lueckenhoff; children, Lieutenant Colonel Andy (Nicole), Mark (Mackenzie) and Patrick Lueckenhoff; grandchildren, Alicia, Michael and James Lueckenhoff; siblings, Claire (Jack) Phillips, Anne (Larry) Doerr, Ed (Sandy), Joe (Judy), and Thomas Lueckenhoff and many nieces and nephews.
