August 1, 2018
Virginia A. Johnson of Rockford took the hand of the Lord on August 1, 2018. She was not afraid of death because she knew she would live with Jesus for eternity. Virginia was born on July 30, 1931 in the home of her parents Virgil D. and MaeBell (Chambers) Green in Monroe County TN. She grew up and attended school in Sweetwater TN, where she met the love of her life Herbert G. (Herb) Johnson. They were married on August 13, 1949. Soon after they moved to Rockford and had their daughter, Phyllis, in the summer of 1950. Virginia worked for National Lock Co. in the Fastener Division and retired with 30 years of service on her 50th birthday. Virginia was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as the financial secretary and a member of the church council. She was head of the kitchen committee which served meals at church events. One of her proudest moments was the day she lead her daughter to know the Lord. In addition to her service to the lord she served her community in many ways. She also served as a volunteer for the UAW local # 449 Union for 30+ years where she would help and advise members through questions regarding pensions, insurance, ect. Our cherished memories of Virginia will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a loving family which includes her daughter Phyllis (Joe) Campos, grandchildren, Nikki (Jeromy) Sowl, Jeremy (Robin) King, great-grandsons Riley and Devin Sowl, great-granddaughters Jordan and Camryn King, as well as a very large extended family which includes 2 sisters, a sister in law, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in Christ and many friends. Virginia was predeceased by her parents, her husband Herb, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and grandparents.
The visitation will be held on Monday August 6, 2018 from 5p.m. to 8 p.m. in Calvary Baptist Church, 6286 Linden Rd. The service will be held at the church on Tuesday August 7, 2018 at 11:00a.m. with Rev. Michael Killian officiating. Internment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Calvary Baptist Church or Northern Illinois Hospice. The family wishes to thank all of our loving family, friends and wonderful staff members at Northern Illinois Hospice who helped Virginia as she followed her final path to be with the Lord.
