MARCUS—Richard Paul, known affectionately as "Poo", died on 29-July-2018 peacefully at the age of 95. Richard was born 19-September-1922, the fourth in the line of five children to Isidore and Becky Marcus. He grew up in Rockaway Park Queens, attended Brooklyn Technical High School, served as an Aviation Electronics Technician in the United States Navy and graduated from NYU School of Business under the GI Bill. He was an accountant until 1957 when he saved enough money to open a small retail furniture business, Penn Furniture, in Huntington Station NY. In 1960, he married the love of his life Eleanor Ruth Sohne, fondly known as “Moo” and “Elly”. Elly joined Richard in business and together they expanded Penn Furniture to locations in Smithtown and Port Jefferson Station NY. After 42 years working side-by-side, they sold their business and retired to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida with days full of friends, family, cultural events and endless golf. His enterprising, loving and supportive spirit shall live on through his three devoted children Alice, Billy and Dianne, their spouses Mitch Tamkin, Debbie Marcus, and Bruce Grossman whom Poo treated like his own, and his fan-club of grandchildren Marcus, Mimi, Eva, Rebecca, Noah, Eric, Ben, Oliver, and Nate. In honor of Richard Marcus, donations can be made to the Center of Neurodegenerative Disease Research (CNDR ) Alzheimer’s Research Fund Perelman School of Medicine at University of Pennsylvania.
