George Charles Seberger passed away on July 31, 2018. George is survived by his beautiful wife Dee of 69 years, son Michael (Mary) and granddaughter Melody, and son David (Cheryl), grandson Dustin (Sara) and great grandchildren Luka and Lina.
A graduate of Lexington High School in Nebraska, George joined the US Marine Corps and served in WWII and Korean Wars. In Korea, he received two Purple Hearts. In WWII, George was famous for diving from the flight deck of the USS Tarawa where he served as a Marine Corps Guard. He was also a Marine Corps Guard in the Redwing of the Pentagon serving Admirals Nimitz and Halsey. For one week, he raised the flag at the White House where he met President Harry Truman. His picture, along with many other soldiers, is etched in the granite wall at the Korean War Memorial in Washington DC.
As a scout leader and baseball coach, George spent many hours with Mike and Dave teaching them to play golf, baseball, football, hunting and fishing. Mike went on to pitch for the Twins and Dodgers organizations. Dave played baseball and football in high school. George and Dee played golf into their eighties! They both were long-time members of the Cold Springs Country Club and George was active in the Georgetown SIRs and the Hangtown Marine Corps League.
George loved his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren and he loved life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Georgetown Methodist Church, 2853 Church Street, Georgetown, CA on Sunday, August 19 at 12:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.
