Mickey was a graduate of Texas Southern University Pharmacy School and spent his career helping others as a pharmacist. A U.S. Navy Corpsman during the Vietnam War, Mr. Gámez found community with other current and former service members. Mickey held many passions including arts, music, film, Texas history, hunting, fishing, horses, dancing, cooking and his lush outdoor garden. But his greatest love was his family, most especially his treasured wife of forty years, Dorothy. Both were longtime members of Saint Edward’s Catholic Church in Spring, TX. Sir Knight Francis Gámez was a member Assembly 2863, Counsel 14512 of the Saint Edward’s Catholic Church. To those closest to him, he was known as a family man of great character and strong faith, loyal to a fault, fiercely independent and generous. Though he lived the majority of his life in the Houston area, he never lost his small town roots from growing up in Saspamco, TX. He is preceded in death by his father Manuel Gámez, mother Nancy Jackson and sister Alice Duncan. Mickey is survived by his wife, Dorothy Gámez; Daughters Audrey Gámez, Meredith Gámez and Marisa Gámez; Sister: Gigi and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 5:00PM-8:00PM at Brookside Funeral Home-Champions. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30AM, Thursday, August 9, 2018 at St. Edwards Catholic Community, 2601 Spring Stuebner Rd, Spring, Texas, 77389. Burial will be held at 12:30PM,Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, Texas, 77038. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the charity of your choice in his honor.
