Nick was born May 18, 1942 to Evelyn L. and Hubert L. Oakley, Sr., in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He played football for Muskogee Central High School, earning a football scholarship to the University of Oklahoma.
Nick attended OCS at the US Army Artillery School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was a commissioned Second Lieutenant from 1967 – 1969. He served with NATO forces in Europe and in the U.S.A.
He attended the University of Oklahoma and Northeastern University, earning his B.S. in Business and meeting his wife Barbara at Northeastern.
After college, he worked on the Alaska Pipeline at Phillips Petroleum; he was also General Manager at Universal Plumbing for 17 years. He retired from Louisville Ladder in 2007.
A Monument resident since 1981, Nick was actively involved in the Colorado Springs Home Builders Association and was named HBA Associate of the Year. He also served as Treasurer for the Woodmoor Improvement Association. Nick coached football for Lewis-Palmer High School and was an avid Broncos fan.
His hobbies included gardening, exercising, collecting German steins, and reading books about history and Corvettes. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, friend, and Papa. He will be missed by family, friends, and the Tri-Lakes community.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Oakley; his daughter Angela L. Campbell and her husband Edward E. Campbell of Aurora, Colorado; and his son Bruce A. Oakley and his wife Misty and daughter Alexia Paige of Eagle River, Alaska.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Swan Law Funeral Directors 501 N Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903. Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 2:00pm.
