Lansing - It is with profound sadness we announce that Dr. John (Jack) Francis Holland, beloved father, loving grandfather passed away peacefully on Friday August 3rd at 3:17 p.m. at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. He was born on March 7, 1928 in Garden City South Dakota and was the youngest son of Nellie Mae Holland and Robert Arlington Holland (both predeceased) and brother to Robert Charles Holland (predeceased). John's beloved wife, RoseMary Adeline Holland (of 53 years), is also predeceased. John will be greatly missed and cherished by his daughters, Deborah L. Stratton-Robichaud of Columbia, South Carolina and her three children, Aaron R. Stratton, Arielle N. Stratton and Alexander M. Robichaud and his daughter, Linda M. Rosa-Lords (Kevin J. Lords) of Dublin, Georgia and her four children, Brandan R. Rosa, Bryan Q. Rosa, Braylan C. Rosa and Brenton L. Rosa and her two step-sons, Tanner J. Lords and Connor D. Lords. John will also be missed by his dear loving friend, Mary E. Sheridan of Haslett, Michigan.
John spent his childhood growing up in South Dakota and Minnesota. For his college years he attended and graduated from several academic institutions to include St. Cloud State University, the University of Minnesota, Maclester College, University of Wisconsin and finally earning his doctorate in Biochemistry at Michigan State University in 1972.
John was a Professor, Scientist, Inventor, Teacher, Student Mentor and avid Spartan for Michigan State University for 30+ years. In his personal life he was also an Inventor, Business Consultant, Business Founder/Owner, and Chaplain for the American Legion Post 269 in Haslett, Michigan. For the Northwest Presbyterian Church he was an Elder, filling in for the Pastor when he was out of town and taught Marriage and Family Sunday School.
His primary goal as an Inventor was to create things that helped people. Whether thru advanced Genetic tests, Cell cloning, new applications for the Mass Spectrometer, or a Colorimeter to test the safety of telephone poles, his objective was never money, only to use his talents to serve others.
His generosity and commitment to others, story-telling and abundant sense of humor will be fondly remembered and missed by his family and many, many friends.
A Memorial Service will be performed by Pastor Timothy Chung at North Westminster Church, 743 N. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Lansing, Michigan on August 30, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. The family will receive friends at the church 1 hour prior to the service.
