Danny was predeceased by his parents, Chuck Daniel, Willene Daniel, and Don Miller; and father- and mother-in-law, Leroy Buxton and Lillian Buxton.
Survivors include Danny's wife, Vicki; his mother, Suzanne Miller; two daughters, Sonja Daniel Cook (Greg) and Jessica Daniel Mills (Chris); one son, Curtis Daniel; and five grandchildren, Aubrey Cook, Tia Cook, Austin Mills, Nathan Mills, and Molly Daniel.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee on May 7, 1954, Danny began his journey through life. Two weeks later, the family moved to Coppel, Texas for five years before relocating to Olney, Illinois then on to Newton, Illinois where Danny ran track and graduated from high school. He began his adult life in Locust Grove, Georgia as an employee of Uniroyal Tire.
With his outgoing personality, Danny quickly made connections and was offered a position at McDonough Golf Course. His intelligence and work ethic were soon recognized by management, who recommended that he pursue a college degree. He gained admission to Lake City Community College and began in the School of Golf Course Operations.
In Summer 1975 while serving as an intern at the Port Charlotte Golf Course, Danny met Vicki Sue Buxton at the First Federal Savings & Loan Bank where he was cashing his first paycheck. They began dating and were married on January 3, 1976.
Danny and Vicki moved to Jonesboro, Georgia as Danny was offered the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent position at the Green Valley Golf Club. In 1977, he found opportunities to better serve his growing family with ChemLawn Services Corporation in Marietta, Georgia. Again his intelligence and work ethic resulted in promotions ultimately leading to Branch Manger positions in Birmingham, Alabama (1981) and Marietta, Georgia (1993).
While working in Marietta, Danny found an opportunity to move his family back home to Alabama and expand his professional knowledge. He transitioned from lawn care services to industrial vegetation management. He began working for Vegetex and Naturchem West Inc. where he served as a sales representative and subsequently a branch manager in Birmingham.
In 2004, he was hired as Sales Representative and Branch Manager of Drennen Forestry Services to start up a new line of industrial weed control operations. In 2010, Drennen Forestry sold the division to Jerdan Services and Danny transitioned, performing a similar role. He was recognized in his professional life many times with various awards.
After a minor heart attack, Danny was provided an opportunity to work in a less stressful environment. Until his untimely passing, he served as a technician for Mr. Bugg’s Pest Patrol.
During his time attending Homewood Church of Christ, it became clear to many his vast love of the Lord and the Fruits of the Spirit that God had cultivated in him over the years. As a result, he was asked to serve as a Deacon for the Homewood, Alabama church.
Danny's love of the Lord was not just seen in the church, it could be seen in every aspect of his life, especially with his family. The love he had for his wife Vicki, three children, their spouses, and five grandchildren was the most tender, unconditional, unwavering kind of love. He lived for the moments, if it was a few minutes with one or two, or the birthdays, vacations or holidays when everyone was able to come together.
While these paragraphs succinctly describe Danny's professional life and a few of his personal attributes, there are simply not enough words to express the impact he had on those he encountered. He leaves a forever lasting impression on his family, friends and colleagues.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Homewood Church of Christ, followed by A Celebration of Danny's Life at 4 p.m. at the church.
