Luis Rafael Garza, Sr., 82, of Kyle, Texas passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 25, 1935 in Laredo, Texas to Guadalupe Rodriguez Garza and Martina Sanchez Garza.
His passion for his family was unmatched. Luis enjoyed barbequing, dancing, listening to music, and spending time with his family. He loved his Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. He loved talking sports of any kind any time.
Luis proudly served as a Private in the U.S. Army. He worked in the oilfield for many years. He also worked for Sears Roebuck Company.
Luis adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was not a person he met that he did not make feel like the center of attention in his presence. He enjoyed making people laugh with his stories and jokes.
Luis is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Minerva Ibanez Garza; parents, Guadalupe and Martina Garza; brother, Gilberto Santos Garza; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Felix and Paula Ibanez. He will be sadly missed by his son Luis R. Garza, Jr. (Dana) and daughters, Belinda A. Ramirez (Roy) and Minerva Pilar Garza; grandchildren, Kaila M. Martinez (David), Jennifer A. Ramirez, Courtney E. Dreher, Olivia Q. Garza, Roy R. Ramirez, Maya E. Garza, great-grandchildren, Coraline M. Chick, Mason A. Martinez, and Jordan A. Martinez; sister, Maria Guadalupe Guerra, and brother, Jose Benito Garza; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives; and a host of friends.
Special thanks to the doctors and staff of Legend Oaks Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Heart to Heart Hospice, and all of our family who consoled us, sent food, flowers, and well wishes.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Sunday, August 26, 2018 with a Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 27, 2018 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road with Father Pat Coakley, Celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roy R. Ramirez, Jr., Joey Rodriguez, Paul Solis, David Rodriguez, Johnny Guerra, Marcus Ibanez, Sonny Morin, and Alfonso Ibanez. Honorary pallbearers will be David Martinez, Mason Martinez, Jordan Martinez, Marcus Guerra, Jonathan Guerra, and Justin Guerra.
