He was born in Elkton, TN on June 5, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd Robert Ables Sr. and Delia Jones Ables, his brothers, Cleatus Ables, Charles Ables, Max Ables, and Clyde Ables, his sisters, Carolyn Deere and Pat Brumit, and his companion of over 30 years, Glenda Cox.
He is survived by his sisters, Audean Merrill of Louisville, KY, Barbara Jones of Minor Hill, and Betty Jo Brumfield of Clarksville, his special friends, Mike Chandler and Serita, and several nieces and nephews.
F.R. attended schools in Giles County. In his early years, he worked with his father and brothers in farm work and landscaping. He also was employed by the Orkin Company as a technician and a salesperson for Hard Rock Drilling Supply, and H's Pawn, Jewelry, and Firearms in Athens, Alabama. He was an active and loyal member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1827 for many years.
F.R. lived an active and adventurous life in his younger days; but due to a horse riding accident and early onset of hip issues, his mobility was limited in his later years. He enjoyed horseback riding, attending horse shows and races, car races, football games, boating on the Elk and Tennessee Rivers, and traveling to Atlantic City, Tunica, and Las Vegas. He loved the action.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home with burial to follow at Giles Memory Gardens.
