Omer M. Pothast, 99, of Delphos passed away early morning, Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Van Crest of Delphos. Omer was born on April 18, 1919 in Landeck, Ohio to John C. & Rose M. (Fischer) Pothast. On October 2, 1946, he married Rita M. Elwer who after almost 65 years of marriage, passed away on March 26, 2011.
Omer is survived by his children, Carol (James) Utrup of Wilmington, Ohio, Virginia DiSalle of Delphos, Louis (Becky) Pothast of Ft. Jennings, Thomas (Nancy) Pothast also of Ft. Jennings, Therese (Keith) Rahrig of Delphos, Richard Pothast also of Delphos and Stephen (Joyce) Pothast of Van Wert. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Walter, Cornelius “Nick”, an infant brother Clifford, his twin brother Elmer Pothast and a sister, Gertrude Ernst.
Early on Omer was a mechanic at Bockey’s Garage, C.D. Oldsmobile,and in 1963 he also opened his own business , Omer’s Alignment Shop where he retired. In his retirement, he helped his son with Pothast Field Drainage. Omer was a very proud WWII Army veteran receiving many medals thru out his tour of duty.
Omer was a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and he was member of the Ft. Jennings American Legion Post 715. He was a wonderful family man, and adored his grand and great grandchildren completely.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery where Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the Ft. Jennings American Legion Post 715 and by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
Family and friends may call Friday, August 24, 2018 from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Parish Wake Service at 8:00 p.m at the Weber Funeral Home in Delphos. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Siferd-Orians Funeral Home.
