Allen Philip Goff passed away on August 26, 2018 with family and friends by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years Sigrid M. Goff, his sons Jeremy and John Goff, his parents Allen and Phyllis Goff of Stuart's Draft, Virginia, his brother Bruce Goff of Reno, Nevada, and his sister Susan McIntyre of Woodbridge, Virginia.
Allen was born in Washington, D.C. on October 7, 1954. Raised in Bowie MD, he graduated from Bowie High School in 1972 and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Regent University.
Al and Sigrid met at a Bible Conference in Niagara Falls, Canada, got married in Chicago in 1982 and eventually moved to Bowie. After their twin sons were born, Allen secured a career position as a Quality Assurance Manager with F.E.M.A. But art and technology were his life-long passions. From a young age, he created many memorable pictures and technical drawings, which he donated to family and friends.
Sigrid completed her college degrees at the University of Maryland and became a library media specialist with the Prince George’s County Public School System. When the twins reached adulthood, Al put his career on hold to be at home with his sons who needed special attention.
Al was active as a lay leader with home groups and wrote Bible Study courses that have been used by thousands of students. He also taught The Truth Project sponsored by Focus on the Family and many other Bible studies.
Al used his considerable technology skills and his talent as an artist to provide web support for Turn ON the LIGHT Bowie, which encourages churches to work together to love their neighbors and show the love of Christ in the Bowie area. For many years until his untimely death he took part in the Bowie Prayer Walk Ministry to pray for all the neighborhoods in Bowie.
He was a member of the Leadership Board for Turn ON the Light-Bowie and helped found the Coalition of Bowie Area Men's Ministries known as "CoBAMM.” Moreover, his dedication to friends with cancer and his leadership and organizational skills added to the Mid-Atlantic Cancer Support Group for over 12 years.
Al's joy and passion from the Lord gave him a heart to help to people. He was happiest serving his family and others in the community. His last spoken words were "Praise the Lord.” Al often encouraged us to keep seeking the Lord and not give up. “Praise the Lord. Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord” (Psalm 113:1).
