Bill Was born April 24, 1927 in New York the son of Robert Z. & Esther Block. He grew up Flushing, New York until WWII. He quit school and enlisted in the Navy where he served as a Navy Corpsman. After his stint with the Navy he finished his formal education. He was then accepted at Bradley University where he graduated with a BA in Political Science. While in Peoria he met his future wife Sue and also enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He a had a wonderful wedding and then immediately shipped out to Korea. After 19 years and 3 wars he left Marine Corps as an instructor at the Basic School in Quantico, VA. In civilian life he had a 2nd career as a Sales Representative for DePuy Orthopedics.
In his short life of 91 years he met many great people, trained many great Marines, made many friends, did so many things, and never missed a party. In my last conversation with him he confessed that he really had a great life and was the lucky (SOB) man, and truly blessed.
Preceding him in death are, his loving wife “Sue” and his youngest daughter Nancy. Also his parents Robert & Esther, brother Robert (Bobby), and sister Virginia.
Bill is survived by his son William J. (wife Kim), daughters Patricia Rosa, Amy Nation (husband Ken) and granddaughters Jessica Gurganus (husband Todd), Kelly Rosa (companion Luke Ernst) and Kathryn Sullivan (husband Bobby); great grandsons Camden & Ryder Gurganus and Luke, Emma, Elsie Ernst, and Marley, Patrick Sullivan and one more on the way.
Bill & Sue will be inurned after grave side services being held August 31, 2018 at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 2:00 with Joe Eby officiating, Marine Corps Color Guard, Inter Veterans Detail, and Elks Pipes.
In the spirite of Bill’s life, a celebration will be held Saturday September 1, 2018 at 5204 Deerwood Lake starting at 4:00.
