Elinor Claire (Champoux) Barthelemy, age 90, widow of Lawrence K Barthelemy Jr., entered the Lord’s embrace after a long journey with Alzheimer’s. Elinor, the daughter of the late George W. Champoux Sr and Anne Pearl (Eaton) Champoux, was born July 29, 1928 in Newburyport, MA. She was predeceased by her brother George W. Champoux Jr and sister Joan (Champoux) Sexton.
Elinor was a loving mother and talented seamstress and baker - skills she learned in her years at Essex County Agricultural School (aka Essex Aggie). In her senior year in 1946 she was class vice-president, Editor of the Green & White yearbook, and was on the basketball and volley ball teams. She was also voted Most Popular and Best Dressed. But what she enjoyed most in life was ballroom dancing with Larry (‘Bart’), her husband of 66 years, and reading. She and Bart moved to Florida in the late 1980s to escape the cold New England winters. She moved back to New England to live with her daughter Cheryl after the death of her beloved husband in 2014.
Elinor is survived by her four children: Ken Barthelemy and his wife Joyce of Rhode Island; Lawrence Barthelemy III and his wife Tina of South Carolina; Cheryl Roy and her husband Mark of Connecticut; and Mark Barthelemy of Maine. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A private celebration of Elinor’s life will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to Vernon Manor Recreation Fund, 180 Regan Road, Vernon, CT 06066, North Central Hospice and Palliative Care (www.vnhsc.org) or the Alzheimer’s Foundation (Alzfdn.org).
