The family of Wayne Albert Slaven is saddened to announce that he passed away in his sleep on the morning of September 8, 2018. Wayne was a resident of Mesa, AZ for the past 22 years after retiring as a Sergeant with the California Highway Patrol. He was 77 years old.
Wayne was born on September 23, 1942 in Kerman, CA where he grew up and graduated from Kerman High School in 1960 and later attended Reedley College. 1n 1963 Wayne was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Hanau, Germany. On December 26, 1963, Wayne married the love of his life, Carol Jane Brady. He was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1966. Wayne was hired as a Patrol Officer for the California Highway Patrol in 1967, and was initially stationed in Barstow, CA. Wayne transferred to Coalinga, CA in 1972 where he worked as an Officer. In 1988, Wayne was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. After 29 years of service, Wayne retired from the CHP in 1996 and moved to Mesa with his wife.
Wayne will always be loved and remembered for his mild manner, kindness to others, his witty sense of humor, and his knack for being a practical joker. Wayne is survived by his wife Carol of Mesa, son Scott also of Mesa, daughter Shannon Reeves of Gilbert, Son-In-Law Dean Reeves, and grandsons Sam Reeves and Zack Reeves all also of Gilbert.
Private Services for Wayne will be held at the Valley of the Sun Cemetery in Chandler, AZ.
