On September 22nd, Arlene Alice Peck went home to heaven at the age of 92. Her passing is a very sad thing for all of us who have been deprived of her presence, yet there is a wonderful sweetness in rehearsing the many fond memories of her and in knowing the preciousness of her arrival in heaven.
Arlene was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Warren and Alice Lindberg. Arlene spent her childhood years in the North Woods town of Radisson, Wisconsin, and her high school years in Pittsville, Wisconsin where she met her future husband, Robert Peck, who she knew at first sight was “the one.” After being married on the Navy base at Pensacola, Florida during World War II, Robert and Arlene eventually settled down in the lumber and ranching town of Ukiah, California where Arlene’s family had moved. After her husband’s death in 1986, Arlene and her son moved to Spokane Valley, Washington where they have owned and managed residential rental properties in which Arlene took an active role, cleaning, painting, and doing bookkeeping until she was in her mid-80s.
One of Arlene’s fondest childhood memories that she enjoyed sharing was of seeing her father reading his Bible and inquiring about the book. After explaining about God, salvation, and Jesus, her father told her that “you have to love Jesus enough to die for him.” After pondering the seriousness of the matter a bit, Arlene prayed to receive Jesus as her savior and served him fully and faithfully all of her days.
Arlene’s spiritual life took another step during the Charismatic renewal at which time she received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and discovered the word of faith message. During that time, Arlene led Bible studies and prayer groups and even composed several songs that she played on her guitar as she led Sunday school classes at the local Lutheran church. Arlene continued to be active in church, Christian political causes, and prayer groups after moving to Spokane Valley.
Funeral services for Arlene will be on Friday, October 19, 11:00 am, at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, Washington. A reception and meal will follow at the family home at 4610 S. Bates Rd., Spokane Valley. Arlene was known for hosting guests in her home with joyous fellowship and plenty of food so all are encouraged to honor her memory by joining in an afternoon of friends, food, and fellowship. The main course will be provided, but guests are welcome to bring their favorite dish to add to the variety and fun.
