On Monday, October 1, 2018, Gerald Lee Elson, of New Plymouth, ID, passed away at the age of 75. Gerald was born on July 14, 1943, in Ontario, OR, to Alvin and Pearl (Purdy) Elson. Gerald was raised on a farm in New Plymouth, ID where he met his high school sweetheart and eventual bride Sherry Anderson. He married Sherry on April 07, 1961, in New Plymouth, ID. They celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Gerald and Sherry raised three children in New Plymouth, Rodney (Robin) Elson, Kristi (Richard) Riener, and Toni (Greg) Holopeter. They have 14 grandchildren, Jill, Jennifer, Joseph, Bryan, Danie, Timothy, Kelly, Kristen, Casey, Matt, Jennie, Jake, Jared, and Jessica.
While growing their family, Gerald was a farmer/rancher. They raised cattle for a period of time, planted and harvested multiple crops, developed ponds, and re-established habitat by planting a variety of trees and shrubs. Gerald and Sherry transitioned from the farm to employment with the United States Department of Agriculture where they both retired as County Executive Directors for their respective counties of Gem and Payette. As they raised their children, Gerald volunteered to serve as a School Board Trustee for the New Plymouth School District. He enjoyed being outdoors on their property and spending time with his wife and children. Gerald enjoyed his horse packing and UTV mountain trips with relatives and teaching his children how to enjoy the Lord’s outdoors. In everything he did, his heart was always in farming.
Gerald was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife and all of his children and grandchildren. He loved being with family and believed life was good. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his wife and all of his children and some of the grandchildren.
