Eda E. (Currier) Stockson passed away peacefully, on October 10, 2018 in the embrace of family and the compassionate nursing staff of the Pond Home in Wrentham, MA. She was born the first of five children in 1919, in Houlton, Maine to C. Dwight and I. Bernice Currier of Houlton ME. She graduated from Houlton High School in 1938, then attended Beal Business College in 1938 that led to a position with the John Watson Company during WWII. In 1946 she married Arnold, her loving companion of 57 years, upon his discharge from the Air Force.
In 1948, she and Arnold moved south and settled in Cambridge, where Eda was hired by Revelation Bra for her intellect (but delighted when asked to also be a product model for her beauty!) She went on to attend classes at the Bentley School of Accounting and Finance graduating in 1954 with a BA in Accounting, leading to a 10 year career as an accountant at A B Dick Co. She landed her dream job in the Comptroller’s Office of Harvard University in 1965, where she ended her 25 year career with a congratulatory speech by President Nathan Pusey and an engraved Harvard rocker.
Eda was an avid genealogist and helped cousin Phillip Currier publish 7 volumes of the Currier Family Genealogy that traced the roots of her earliest American ancestor to 1638. She and Arnold relished travelling the US with a goal of visiting all 50 states, and with niece, Bonnie Burrous in tow, she visited the last two, Hawaii and Alaska, by 2008.
In addition to full time mom, full time accountant and church treasurer, Eda found time to volunteer, cook for the church potlucks, preside as Worth Matron for Eastern Star, care for sick neighbors, visit the elderly, garden, and with Arnold, host the many friends and family wanting a tour of colonial Boston.
Eda was preceded in death by Arnold, by both parents and by her four beloved siblings, brothers Laurel and Eber, sisters Vivian Olmstead and Vera Ruth Adams, sister in law Trudy Currier, and brothers in law, Gilbert and William Stockson. Her grace, goodness, boundless energy and love live on in the hearts and minds of her daughter Sally Rossini (Ralph), son David Stockson (Carlin), grandchildren Kelsey Stockson, Sean Stockson and Nicholas Rossini (Sarah). She recently experienced the joy of becoming a great-grandmother to Nicholas and Sarah’s two enchanting boys, Anthony and Luca. Her legacy is enhanced by the love and personal memories shared by her surviving sister in law Marilyn and the extended families of the many nieces and nephews whose lives she touched.
A private family memorial service will be held at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, Maine at a future date.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the nonprofit POND HOME where Eda enjoyed outstanding nursing care and active companionship, 289 East Street. Wrentham, MA.
